MOTOR MOVER BATTERIES

Motor mover batteries are required to power the motor in your caravan mover. The motor mover is clamped to the caravan chassis and connects to the rollers that are attached to the wheels of the caravan. They can then be used to manoeuvre the caravan in any given direction by operating a remote handset. Powered by the caravan’s battery, the motor mover is ideal to guide the caravan uphill without it rolling backwards.

Motor mover batteries need to be of very high quality as the motor pulls very large currents when moving your heavy caravan, up curb or that slight incline on the tour site.  Lead acid leisure batteries just dont have the capability to draw large currents for long periods of time.  It simply degrades the battery with out you knowing. It will cause permanent cell damage and just reduce the number of cycles you will get from your leisure battery. Or it may just fail altogether.

LITHIUM MOTOR MOVER BATTERIES

Lithium batteries are specifically designed to handle the large loads that motor movers demand and can be completely discharged without harming the battery.  The loads can vary considerably, from just rolling along the flat with an empty caravan compared to operating in the cold weather up an incline with the caravan fully laden.

In addition a Lithium battery is perfect for use in a Caravan as they are less half the weight of the compareable Leas-acid battery.  They DO NOT release TOXIC or harmful gases during charging and discharging. In summary, they extremely safe to have onboard your caravan with no need for any maintenance, gas or safety checks.  Therefore, you can sleep easy with your lithium battery onboard.

WHAT SIZE BATTERY DO I NEED FOR A MOTOR MOVER ?

Ideally, you need a LithiumPRO battery that can handle large discharge loads of up to 200A continuously.  LithiumPRO offers 3 battery choices that that can all discharge over 100A continuously.  Motor movers usually only draw between 20-40amps during normal use. However, if you need to manoeuvre your caravan up a 1:4 gradient or you are moving a twin axle caravan or maybe a fully laden 2500kg caravan then your mover will demand a much higher load from the battery in-excess of 150A. This will hurt a lead-acid battery and will struggle to operate at that type of load for even short periods, cause permanent damage.

Most lithium batteries have a safety factor designed into the Battery Management System BMS that will shut down the battery should it exceed the designed discharge capacity of the internal BMS at between 75-100A of continuous load to protect itself.  Whereas LithiumPRO batteries are designed to handle much larger loads due their superior BMS architecture, which uses much higher quality components to handle the larger loads.

NEED MORE POWER we offer a battery with a continuous discharge capability of 150A
The ULTRAVOLT or our flagship model the ARCTICXTREME has a discharge capability of 200A.

WHAT BATTERY DO I NEED FOR A MOTOR MOVER ?

Your best option is a Lithium battery with high discharge currents.  LithiumPRO offers 3 battery choices for you motor mover see table below to match your motor mover with the ideal battery:

The COMPACTLite battery has a 100A rated continuous discharge capacity which is suitable for most small to medium sized caravans.

The ULTRAVOLT can discharge continuously at a huge 150A to withstand the large loads put upon the battery when moving a fully laden caravan up a 1:4 gradient. This type of load on a Lead-acid battery will permanently damage the cells and will soon require replacing.

If you require a larger discharge current than 150A try our ARCTICXTREME model this can discharge continuously at 200Amps

NOTE: Be sure to check the specification in your motor mover manual to see its peak current requirements.

NCC CLASS A Batteries

LithiumPRO is the market leader for High Performance Lithium Batteries. Making them the ideal choice for use with motor movers. Designed and engineered to handle significant inductive loads that your battery experiences whilst required when using your motor mover. LithiumPRO are proud to announce that our SMARTIQ SERIES Range has been audited by the National Caravan Council (NCC) and recognised as the top-performing Class A Lithium Battery.

Every LithiumPRO battery is equipped with a highly advanced and robust Battery Management Systems (BMS), this enables the battery to coupe with large continuous loads reaching up to 2500 watts or 200A.

Be sure to do your research and check the discharge current of your proposed Lithium Battery supplier to make sure it can handle the high loads of a motor mover.  All LithiumPRO Batteries are protected by Battery Management Systems (BMS) which is an advance computer that monitors the charging and discharging current being put through the battery. Should it exceed the batteries specification the BMS will simply shut the battery down to prevent it from damaging itself.  Many cheaper lithium batteries will have low quality BMS’s that are not designed to be able to withstand such high currents that are required for a motor movers to work smoothly in all situations.

Weighing in at just 10kgs thats over 60% lighter than your old deep cycle Lead-acid leisure battery. Our Lithium batteries offer 100% useable capacity – Unlike, your existing battery you can USE all the published amp hours in a single discharge without damaging your battery. Try this 5000 times before your battery will even start to feel the strain.

Recharge them in as little as just 1 hour and you’re ready to discharge them again. They will connect seamlessly to inverter and  your solar system on board your caravan. Using our SMARTIQ advanced data monitoring software you are able to stream live data to ensure you are fully aware of your power status at anytime.

The SMARTIQ SERIES range is designed and engineered in the UK specifically for the UK market. Hence we have retained the standard SAE Automotive style DIN battery size with familiar brass terminal posts. In terms of size, this battery serves as a like-for-like replacement for a Lead-Acid battery. It is a Plug-and-play replacement, Meaning you do not need to replace your existing battery cables. Just remove your old lead acid battery and replace it with the smaller, lighter, and more powerful lithium battery.

The battery has the same base rail, allowing it to be secured into position just like before. It’s ideal for caravans

At Lithiumpro we have designed our batteries specifically for use in Caravans. In particular, we have made use of the familiar Automotive style battery box with base rails for safely securing them into your vehicle. Additionally, we continue to use the high quality Brass terminal posts for the battery terminal connections. However, thats where the similarities end…
Inside, there are no chemicals. We use Premium Grade A ‘EVE’ Cells in our Ultravolt 105AH battery. As a result they have the ability to be cycled up to 5000 times, unlike most other cheaper grade lithium cells will last 2000 cycles. Albeit this is way more that your lead acid battery is capable of.

POWRTOUCH MOTOR MOVER BATTERY

powrtouch motor movers batteries

Do you have a Powrtouch Motor Mover? Then we have the ideal battery. The ULTRAVOLT can discharge continuously at a huge 150A to withstand the large loads put upon the battery when moving a fully laden caravan up a 1:4 gradient. Lead acid batteries are not designed to handle this type of load continuously. It will therefore lead to permanently cell damage and just stop holding a charge and require replacing.

Most motor movers usually only draw between 40-80amps during normal use. However, if you need to manoeuvre your caravan up a 25% gradient or you are moving a 2.5 ton twin axle caravan then your mover will demand a much higher load from the battery in-excess of 150A. In whihc case you will require our If you require our ARCTICXTREME model which can discharge continuously at 200Amps.

Most lithium batteries have a safety factor designed into the Battery Management System BMS that will shut down the battery should it exceed the designed at 75-100A of continuous load to protect itself.  Whereas Lithium Pro batteries are designed to handle much larger loads due to its superior BMS architecture, that uses much higher quality components to handle the larger loads.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

No special charger is required.  Any normal lead-acid battery charger designed to output a Constant Voltage Constant Current (CCCV) charge profile, which 95% of chargers do, then this is fine and safe for LithiumPro batteries. Many battery chargers will have pre-programmed settings for different battery chemistries.  For Lithium batteries, select the ‘LiFePO4’ profile or the closest charge profile between 14.2-14.6v.
Of course, should you wish to upgrade to a lithium based charger, we would recommend this, as it will charge faster and more efficiently, whilst offering more enhanced protection features during charging, thus preserving the life of you battery.

You can charge your Lithium battery using any or all of the three simple ways listed below:-

1.  Harness your alternator’s surplus power to deliver a steady 14.4v charge voltage. Click here for DC-DC Chargers

2. Using a MPPT Solar Charge Controller, you can charge your leisure batteries at a regulated voltage using your solar panels ability to harness the suns energy. Click here for Solar Charge Controllers

3 Using a Mains hook-up charger, you can use a domestic 240v electricity supply to charge you leisure batteries via hook-up or shore power. Click here for Mains Chargers

IMPORTANTWhen you first receive your battery, fully charge it until you get a ‘Cell Over Voltage’ (COV) notification. This indicates the battery is fully charged. Then, complete a full discharge until you get a ‘Cell Under Voltage’ (CUV) notification, showing the battery is fully discharged. This process allows your Battery Management System (BMS) to calibrate the State of Charge (SOC) in your app. The BMS will then learn to provide more accurate data, understanding both the 0% and 100% charge parameters.

It is recommended to charge your battery at ≤0.5C (0.5 times the battery’s rated capacity). For instance, if the battery has a capacity of 100Ah, the recommended charging current would be ≤50 amps. Please observe the maximum charging capacity listed on your battery.

Your Lithium Battery with a Constant Current Constant Voltage charger CCCV with a LiFePO4 charging profile.

Absorption should be set to 14.2-14.6v

Float should be set to 13.5-13.9v

De-sulfation/Equalisation should be switched off

Most Victron chargers already have a Lithium charging profile. However, should you wish to personalise your settings, please use the following;

Absorption voltage: 14.4V
Absorption time: Recommended setting is half an hour per 100ah of LiFePO4 battery (for example if you have 2x 150ah batteries select 90mins).
Float Voltage: 13.5V
Equalisation voltage: This must be disabled on all Lithium batteries as this can damage the battery with pulses of high voltages. This is designed for lead acid batteries to add with desulfation.
Temperature compensation: This should also be disabled on Lithium batteries.
Charged Voltage: This is where your battery is considered fully charged – Lithium batteries should be set to 14.4V for Victron equipment.
Low Temperature cut-off: The Drift batteries have low temperature charging protection built into the battery. You can leave this off.
Discharge Floor: 0%
Tail Current: This is the minimum current at which the Smart Shunt considers charging or discharging finished. We recommend 4%.
Peukert Exponent: Not required – this is for Lead Acid batteries.

Yes our SMARTIQ Series batteries are all ‘Drop-In’ Lead-Acid replacements. They are exactly the same size and shape as your old Lead-Acid batteries with the exact same terminal posts, so there is not need to change your electrical connections. They even have the base rail at the base to safely secure your battery in place. No need to look for inventive ways to strap a chinese replacement battery down. Click here for ‘Drop-In’ replacement batteries.

Yes, all LithiumPro Energy batteries can be connected in Series or Parallel up to a maximum of 4 units. Our SMARTIQ BMS APP with also be able to display your battery system as a whole in both Series or Parallel configurations.

WARNING: Never connect Lithium batteries of different brands, capacities, or ages together. All brands have unique Battery Management Systems (BMS), and mixing can cause imbalances in charging or discharging, potentially leading to overheating and premature failure. NOTE: Always fully charge each battery separately before connecting them in series or parallel. LithiumPro batteries can be configured as follows:

  • In series to increase voltage up to 24V, 36V, or a maximum of 48V.
  • In parallel up to a maximum of 4 batteries for the SMARTIQ SERIES. Or a maximum of 8 batteries for SMARTCOMM SERIES.

For series configuration, ensure each battery is charged to within 0.05V of each other to prevent imbalances.

For parallel configurations, use cables that are as short and identical in length as possible; batteries naturally equalise in voltage when connected this way.

Lithium batteries are extremely reliable technology. If cared for and looked after according to the manufacturers guidelines you should still be using your battery in 10+ years time. LithiumPro Energy only use traceable Grade-A Prismatic cell technology in all of their batteries which are capable of over 4000-8000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge. Meaning if used every day it will last between 11 -21 years, and still retain 80% of their rated capacity. We are so confident of all our batteries they are covered by our comprehensive 5 year manufacturers warranty.

Yes, you can safely discharge your Lithium Battery down to temperatures as low as -20ºc However, Lithium batteries cannot be charged in temperatures below zero unless they have heaters embedded within the battery.
