A DC-DC battery charger also known as battery to battery charger, utilises your vehicles alternators to charge your Lithium batteries. Most vehicles have plenty of spare capacity in the alternator to divert DC current to other parts of the vehicle. The DC-DC charger unit will use the spare power supplied by the alternator and boost the voltage to a safe level for charging your lithium battery efficiently. This will preserve the life of the Lithium Battery. It will regulate the amount of current used to being drawn from your alternator to charge the lithium leisure battery.
Victron’s Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A non-isolated DC-DC charger is Victron’s professional solution for charging a 12V auxiliary or leisure battery from your engine’s 12V alternator. It is fully compatible with ‘smart’ alternators found in Euro 5 and later vehicles and is Bluetooth-enabled, so can be monitored and configured remotely via the VictronConnect app. It can be used to charge all lead-acid battery types (wet, Gel, AGM) as well as lithium. The charging profile is fully configurable to allow you to match the voltages recommended for battery.
